Posture During Pregnancy

How Your Posture Changes During Pregnancy

Understanding how your posture can change during pregnancy can be important as your baby grows.

Please watch this short video animation (40 seconds) explaining how your posture changes during pregnancy. Notes are provided below as well as our contact form to book your chiropractic adjustment.

Your posture will change when pregnant

When pregnant, your pelvis can tip backwards (tail bone protrudes more) as the uterus expands, making room for the growing baby. This can put enormous pressure on your lower back, muscles/ligaments and nervous system.

As the lower back arch increases so does the curve in your upper back. Pregnancy often contributes to lower back pain. As your back and spine shift out of normal alignment, your head and neck will move forward and your chest will ‘collapse’ to balance the changing weight.

The effect of these changes is that your natural ‘s’ shape curve changes and this puts pressure on your nervous system and your body’s functioning organs.

Aches and pain during pregnancy are common and sore muscles will likely be the most common type of pain. Ligament pain is a sharp stabbing or dull ache type of pain and can occur when the ligaments that support the uterus and pelvis stretch or thicken.

Rest, relaxation and chiropractic care are the best remedies to pain and postural concerns during pregnancy. Chiropractic care is great to relax tight muscles, reduce nerve interference, manage pain and free up stiff joints and vertebrae.
