Find Relief From Back Pain

There is nothing more important than the health and well being of you and your family. Unfortunately, many women suffer from lower back pain during pregnancy and this can put extra stress on your baby.

As your beautiful baby grows, your lower spine will curve inwards to support your baby’s weight. The top of the spine will curve out in what's called a compensatory adaptation. Watch the brief video below to see how your body may change when pregnant.

Studies have shown that approximately half of all expectant mothers will develop low back pain at some point during their pregnancy and that up to 75% of women experience back pain during labor (1). This becomes especially true later in pregnancy when the baby's head pushes on your lower back, legs and buttock, potentially irritating your sciatic nerve.

Helping You Through Your Pregnancy

There are effective and proven treatments to help relieve low back pain. Lower back pain is one of the most common symptoms women experience during pregnancy. Many patients find that chiropractic helps them during their pregnancy. In one study, up to 75% of women reported finding relief from pain after receiving chiropractic care (2).

During pregnancy, your pelvis expands to allow the baby to grow and develop. This causes the sacroiliac joints to destabilise and can make you prone to potentially damaging spinal subluxation (misalignment of your vertebrae). Any additional bending, twisting or heavy lifting may further exacerbate this situation, causing back pain and putting pressure on the nerves that come from your lower back region.

Doctor's of Chiropractic may offer nutrition, ergonomic and exercise advise to help you enjoy a healthy pregnancy.
